Incentives for Home-Building

In its third year, the 2010 Glencoe New Home Incentive program offers over $30,000.00 in incentives for those who build their home in Glencoe during the 2010 construction season. The program consists of over forty businesses offering incentives in the form of discounts, free products, services and gift certificates.
This program, sponsored by the Glencoe business community and the Glencoe Area Chamber of Commerce, is a unique approach to promoting Glencoe as an affordable and appealing place to build. Such a strategy is more important than ever in this current economic climate with the slowdown in the housing market.
Glencoe is know as Minnesota’s Family Friendly City, a city with a diverse business community, excellent schools, a regional health care system, an extensive park system, and of course, great people.
To qualify for the program, homeowners need to apply and pay for a building permit to build within City limits at Glencoe’s City Hall. Then they will be directed to pick up their official program certificate at the Glencoe Chamber of Commerce Office which will entitle them to receive their incentives.
Rory Hollander and his wife Jody, new residents to Glencoe, were one of five families that took advantage of Glencoe’s incentive program in 2009. Rory says, “building a new home instead of purchasing an existing home was a better deal for our family based on the available incentives through Glencoe’s new home incentive program.” The Hollanders recommend working with your local builder early in the planning process to ensure that you take advantage of all the incentives available from local businesses.
