Construction Updates
September 28, 2009: The Glencoe City Center demolition and renovation has begun, and the Glencoe community awaits visible changes to the exterior of the building. The addition on the west of the building, constructed in 1957, will be demolished in the near future.
October 13, 2009: Demolition on the east end of the facility is visible as the 1957 edition of the facility comes down.
November 23, 2009: Demolition is complete. Phase one of the electrical work is complete. Roof is 95% complete. Windows will be installed mid-December. On December 9th, bids will be opened for remodeling work.
December 22, 2009: The City Council awarded over $3.1 in bids for the second phase of the City Center project on December 20, 2009. This work includes all of the interior remodeling work in the 1932 addition for the Public Library, City and other public Offices, Senior Center, and the Event Center; nearly 20 different contracts were awarded. The first phase which included demolition of the 1957 addition, new roof, new windows and some electrical work is nearing completion. The final segments of the first phase includes the installation of new windows, these should begin being installed in Mid-January. Temporary heat has been installed and everything is looking favorable for a August 1, 2010 completion date.
A $2 million bond will be issued in early 2010 to complete the funding for the project. $2.5 million in donations was raised for the $5.2 million project.
